Pushcart Nominations for Phoenicia Authors

12/1/2011

Five Phoenicia authors have just been nominated by small presses for the 2011 Pushcart Prize, and we're delighted to congratulate them and share the news with you!
  • Rachel Barenblat was nominated by Phoenicia Publishing for The Akedah Cycle, a series of poems from her book 70 Faces: Torah Poems.
  • Ren Powell was nominated by Phoenicia Publishing for Red-Eared Slider, a 13-part poem from Mercy Island, published here last winter.
  • Marly Youmans was nominated by qarrtsiluni for her poem I Heard Their Wings Like the Sound of Many Waters. Marly's epic book-length poem, Thaliad, will be published here in 2012.
  • Kenneth Pobo, author of Ice and Gaywings, which won the 2011 qarrtsiluni chapbook contest, was nominated by qarrtsiluni for his poem The Suspension Bridge.
  • And Claudia Serea, author of Angels& Beasts, also forthcoming from Phoenicia in 2012, was nominated twice: by NowCulture for her poem, her back is turned, and by ConnotationPress for her translation (with Alan Sorkin) of a poem by Emilian Galaicu-Paun.
The Pushcart Awards honor the best work published by small presses each year, and while only a few are chosen for the published anthology by the Pushcart jury, it is a reward in itself to gain a nomination from the editors and publishers of the small journals and presses. Phoenicia is proud of all of its authors, and gratified to see this further proof of what excellent company they keep.
